It is said that in ancient times this region was under the rule of King Narsingh. In the beginning of the fifteenth century, King Narsingh established a small town named Narsinghpur on the west bank of the ancient Brahmaputra river. Narsingdi's name was named after the king’s name. In the evolution of the time, the settlement of the Brahmaputra river created many peaks. At present, it is known as the city of NarasinghpurMouza and Narasinghhar village. The name Narsingdi came from the word “narsingh”.
Later this region of Narsingdi was included in the area of MaheshwariPargana. The zamindar of the Pargana was the DiwanIshaKha. Later, the zamindars were Dewan Sharif Kha and Aysha Akhter Khatun. After the abolition of the zamindari system, Narsingdi was once a police station in the district of Narayanganj under Dhaka district. Later, in 1977, it was upgraded to a subdivision of Dhaka district.
In 1996 Narsingdi district started its journey including the 6 sub districts (upazillas) that include NarsingdiSadar, Palash, Shibpur, Monohardi, Belab and Raipura and Narsingdi municipalities.
