Meghna River
Meghna is the longest and widest river of Bangladesh. Narsingdi has flourished in the agricultural sector because of this river. The district’s demand of fish is mostly fulfilled by Meghna. We are familiar to the word “mega” or “megastructure”. The historians assume that the river was named after the word “mega”. The origin of the word “meghna” is from “mega”. Historian Niharonjon Roy assumes this case to be true. The meaning of the word “mega” is ‘big’ or ‘broad’.
It is one of the most important rivers of Bangladesh. The river originating from the hills of eastern India enters Bangladesh through Sylhet region and joins the Padma river near Chandpur and flows to the Bay of Bengal in the name of Meghna.
